Planning estimate—not a guarantee of compost quality, maturity, or pathogen reduction. Material composition, density, moisture, particle size, compaction, weather, aeration, and sampling vary widely. Follow local composting rules and extension/public-health guidance. Keep prohibited materials out; manage leachate, odors, vectors, and fire risk. Animal manure and other potentially contaminated inputs need process-specific handling. A calculated ratio does not prove that the pile reached or held temperatures needed for pathogen or weed-seed reduction.
