Plant Spacing Calculator

Work out how many plants fit a vegetable or flower bed for a given spacing, in square-grid or staggered (triangular, hexagonal) layout, or reverse the math to find the spacing you need to fit a target number of plants. Enter the bed length and width, the spacing between plants, and the layout; the tool gives the plant count, rows and plants per row, plus the area each plant gets and the planting density. Staggered rows pack ~15% more plants than a square grid at the same spacing. Pure arithmetic — actual yields also depend on soil, light, variety and how you prune; rows are centered, so beds with plants at the very edge may hold a few more.
