Tree Canopy Estimator
Screen existing and mature crown coverage inside a rectangular or simple polygon site, including overlap and optional shifted shade footprints.
Site and sampling
Trees
| Name | Center x | Center y | Existing crown width x | Existing crown width y | Existing height | Mature crown width x | Mature crown width y | Mature height |

Equal x/y crown widths represent a circle; unequal widths represent an axis-aligned ellipse. Height is used only to shift the optional shade footprint.

Screening limits: Crowns are fixed, axis-aligned circles/ellipses at two user-entered stages. The estimator samples cell centers on deterministic coarse and doubled-resolution grids, clips samples to the site, and reports the absolute coarse/fine union-area difference as an empirical resolution indicator—not a guaranteed error bound. Shade is the same crown ellipse shifted opposite the entered sun azimuth by height ÷ tan(elevation); it does not model crown depth or ray projection shape. Irregular/asymmetric crowns, growth timing and survival, pruning, species, seasonality, topography, buildings and other obstructions, trunk area, sun path, ecological function, ownership/setbacks, survey accuracy, and site design requirements are excluded. This is not an arborist assessment, ecological study, boundary survey, or landscape/site plan.
